Noze Looan - Cornwall's roots dance partyCumpas promotes Noze Looan which means "Happy Night" in the Cornish language. Events provide platforms for local bands whether community or professional.
Noze Looan may include singing for dancing or a procession of musicians around the venue or a massed session with musicians, dancers and singers all participating. A Noze Looan is the sort of event which brings a community together, where young and old are welcome and can participate together. It's an experience to participate in - you can dance if and when you wish, learning as you go along, or by watching others - but it's also entertainment to sit back and watch. Past events have included performances at the Eden Project, The Minack Theatre, Carnglaze Caverns, Golowan and other Cornish festivals, working closely with professional band Dalla. We are also found in many pubs, schools, village halls and streets across Cornwall!
We run a regular monthly club in Truro, dedicated to noze looan - Cornish dances you can join in with just by following others. Each month a different dance band will feature and it will also be a place for up and coming noze looan bands to try out their stuff. "Our aim now is to develop this exciting movement from grass roots up, working in schools and community venues, collaborating with organisations in Cornwall, supporting the emergence of new bands and generally raising the profile of Noze Looan. Come and join the party!" |
See news pages for upcoming dates and bands. "Whether born here or drawn here, if Cornwall is your home, noze looan is your party!" "To dance at a noze looan is to become part of something much bigger than yourself - not just joining with those around you - but with generations who have danced these steps in Cornwall before." "The music was great, the venue was amazing - even the weather was perfect, we felt privileged to be able to take part" |
