Deeth daa! Welcome to Cumpas - Cornish Music Projects
It is the aim of Cumpas to celebrate the Cornish way of life and the traditions that help ensure the involvement, development and the future of traditional Cornish music.
We use Cornish traditional music to celebrate our distinctiveness and diversity. Our vision is that through our work there will be a growing awareness, understanding and ownership of this music in Cornwall.
Education
For us Cornish music is a treasure trove of tunes and songs, some hidden in archives and only recently coming to light, some being created right now by musicians in bands and groups across Cornwall. Every time we pass a tune on or teach a song in a workshop we are opening up this treasure trove a bit more and contributing to an exciting evolving tradition. We also believe it's important for audiences to be inspired and motivated by high quality performances from skilled and experienced musicians.
Performance
Performance for us is the natural outcome from our educational work - the workshop participant, old or young, who gets inspired to pick up an instrument and join in will be making a CD or forming a band in years to come and passing on their enthusiasm to others.
