Education

We promote and teach the traditional music of Cornwall whether it be feast tunes, furries or folk songs!

We believe that music is for everyone and everyone is musical! We use instruments, voices, feet, hands, and even saucepans and wooden spoons to create our unique mixture of sounds which combine to produce unforgettable performances.

Providing many types of lessonsOur workshops are dynamic, creative and inclusive, based on a wealth of experience in teaching and drama, and a passion for Cornish music and the Cornish language. The outcomes of our work can be seen as Cornish music becomes ever more popular and an increasing part of more peoples' lives.

Once we have led a workshop we aim to leave a group with a sense of ownership of their own local music and offer participants many opportunities for future music-making. Past participants of our workshops have gone on to lead sessions, make CDs, form bands or run community events, and we have many reminders that the echoes of our work have resonated through many peoples' lives.

At the heart of our work is the idea that knowing more about where you live enriches your sense of identity, and our enthusiasm means that our educational work is a journey of discovery for ourselves as well as the people we work with.

From the first spark of an idea to the final performance, we enjoy our educational work tremendously and our feedback tells us that the groups we teach feel the same way!

Community Workshops

We have always enjoyed community workshops as well as school ones. Our vision is to make Cornish music more widely known, and so it is logical to us that we work not only with children and young people within educational settings but also with their parents, grandparents, and younger brothers and sisters, in village halls, pubs, barns, fields, woods or on beaches!

Provide social and learning opportunitiesThe aim of these workshops is often participation in a special event like a festival or parade which the whole community can enjoy. Central to our community work are two groups, the Crowders and Horners, which are open to string, brass, reed and percussion players and attract members of different generations to make music together across Cornwall.

With resource books Fooch! and Hooch! the groups learn the same tunes and perform together as well as separately. Crowders and Horners workshops are run along the same principles as the school workshops with the same aim to enjoy discovering local music.
